Dan Cretu is what you might call a neo-naturalist.
He is a 34 years old artist based in Bucharest. His evolution to food art might seem odd, but it makes a lot of sense once you get to know him.
Dan started out his artistic life as church painter right after University. He is licensed in Decorative Arts, and for 4 years after University he painted and restored Orthodox churches all over Romania using traditional techniques learned from the old masters. Following that, he made a hard to foresee shift towards advertising, working as art director in several Romanian advertising agencies.
Eco art – as he calls his art – is a niche that manages to assemble Dan’s assiduous attention to detail developed during his church restoration period with his love of nature, passion for photography and conceptual thinking acquired while working in advertising.
Discovering food art was not an intentional process. Dan had been a photographer for years. At one point, rather than roaming around to find a subject to capture, he started creating his own. The first thing he ever shaped was the Orange Bicycle.
